“Left behind, left in the shadow of a moment when someone longed to express themselves but was never truly heard.”

This work speaks of voicelessness—the particular agony of having something urgent and deeply real to say, only to be met with silence, indifference, or absence.

To be left behind operates on several levels: physically abandoned, emotionally left behind, and left in the dark. The shadow is a deliberate choice, suggesting that the person still exists, but only as an outline cast by someone else’s light.

Created in 2023, the work emerged while the wound that inspired it was still far from healed.
