The Reeds III, 70 x 50 cm, Carolina Barbarić

This is a smaller series consisting of five paintings featuring the same motif—the reeds. The plant fascinated Carolina with its silhouette, posture, and manner of growth, which always appears in abundance, creating rhythm and repetition within space.

Its form inspired a series of associations—from slender, elongated figures with pronounced heads to the imagery of torches and other vertically rising forms. Guided by these associations, Carolina continued her exploration on canvas, developing the motif through different atmospheres that can also be interpreted as subtle references to the changing seasons.

Through variations in colour, light, and mood, the same motif acquires new meanings and emotional nuances, emphasising its transformative potential. These works opened the path towards a new series titled “Between the Lines.”

The paintings Reeds I, II, III, IV, and V function as studies and a starting point for a broader cycle—the beginning of a larger visual and conceptual narrative that continues to unfold.
