Night Out is part of a series inspired by film noir. The painting depicts a seemingly normal encounter in a bar, with a man whose face is hidden in shadow and a blonde woman. The triangular composition leads our gaze to his hand, which is menacingly gripping her hip. It is a play on words about how to attract the viewer’s attention and direct the spotlight through high contrast and the use of negative space.
