In this tight portrait that seems almost claustrophobic, a man looks at a woman up close and hungrily. His arm frames her, a stance of physical dominance clearly visible. The choice of lighting, which bathes the woman in white, enhances her appearance of innocence, making her seem unattainable. The upward gaze is contrasted with his downward gaze, two opposites that meet. As is typical of Jessica’s work, the woman appears untroubled and untouched by her surroundings, seemingly in a completely different place.
