This work is based on a personal photograph that deeply moved the artist. Depicting a brother and sister, Mia explores the silent, unspoken bonds of childhood that shape the emotional landscapes of adulthood. Oil on panel, along with physical interventions such as cutting and drilling, becomes a medium through which memory is not only depicted, but also felt. The holes in the surface are not flaws but carriers of meaning – symbols of transience, emptiness and what remains unsaid. These works are part of the seriesHoles in Memory, and through them Mia invites the viewer to feel tenderness, distance and nostalgia at the same time.
