Music Biennale Zagreb and the Museum of Broken Relationships are organizing a pop-up exhibition about breakups and invite you to donate objects, sounds or music related to them

Have you ever had your heart broken? Do you own an item that won't let you forget it? Along with a broken heart, has there been a sound that you still remember - a song, a voice, a sound memory that you can't completely get rid of? The Music Biennale Zagreb and the Museum of Broken Relationships give you the opportunity to release her and give her a new home!

The Museum of Broken Connections has entered into a partnership with the Zagreb Music Biennale, a festival dedicated to the adventurous exploration of contemporary music and sound, on the occasion of its upcoming 33rd edition in April 2025 . Drawing inspiration from the concept of the Museum, the theme of the Biennale 2025 is Broken Connections , and the festival is dedicated to exploring the scale and nuances of different artistic interpretations of this concept.

As part of this collaboration, a pop-up exhibition will be organized at the Museum of Broken Relationships in Zagreb, which will take place from March 20 to April 20, 2025 . The exhibit will present breakup stories interwoven with music, sound, and personal items related to those stories, and organizers invite you to contribute to the exhibit and donate items, sounds, or music related to your breakup story . All selected donations will become part of the Museum's collection and can be exhibited in Zagreb or at exhibitions around the world.

Donations can be submitted from November 25, 2024 to January 25, 2025. It is necessary to fill out the donation form available at this link . After submitting the form, donors will receive a confirmation email with a printable version of the form and further instructions. All donations are presented anonymously and are not returned to the donor. In case of any doubts or questions, contact the organizers by email: charlotte@brokenships.com .

If you send a story accompanied by sound or an object that can produce sound, you can also register for the Collective Mixtape Making Workshop, which will be held on January 25, 2025 in Zagreb. If you are interested in participating, follow the social networks of MBZ and the Museum of Broken Relationships and apply when the open call is announced.

The thirty-third edition of the Zagreb Music Biennale will be held from April 5 to 12, 2025 at numerous locations in Zagreb: KD Vatroslav Lisinski, Croatian National Theatre, Zagreb Youth Theatre, Museum of Contemporary Art, Močvara Club, Peti Kupe, Zagreb Dance Center, Student center and many others. Primarily inspired by Zagreb's Museum of Broken Relationships, MBZ 33 takes the notion of a broken relationship as its thematic starting point and preoccupation and creates a program for the 33rd edition of the event whose tradition is a break with tradition. Thus, through creativity, collaborations and gatherings, MBZ 33 explores complex opposites that (re)define our positions, the direction and course of our movements after each form of interruption. The program of the 33rd MBZ will present to the audience concerts by orchestras, chamber ensembles and soloists, contemporary ballets and opera, alternative music concerts, club nights, new media installations and other cultural programs. The program concept of MBZ 33 is jointly signed by the new artistic directors, composers Ivan Josip Skender, Davor Vincze and Tomislav Oliver , and the festival is organized by the Croatian Society of Composers .
