The exhibition (Pre/Formation) is the result of the NOVAci project created in collaboration between WHW and Pogon - the Zagreb Center for Independent Culture and Youth. The program was created on the basis of a public call and this year is being implemented for the fourth time, and it is designed to provide young curators at the beginning of their careers with the necessary infrastructural, organizational and mentoring support when realizing their first independent curatorial projects. NOVac thus acts as a support platform for developing knowledge in the field of contemporary art, with a focus on practical experience in the field of curatorial practices, which is often missing during studies. As part of the project, curators Ana Kovačić and Lea Vene mentored the ROSE collective for several months in preparing the exhibition: from developing the concept, meeting with the artists, to selecting works, designing displays and reporting on the project. The works invite us to synaptic associations/gestures of search - jumping, listening, sprouting like a compact "worldbuilding" that through its forms searches/discovers/guess the assumptions given by materiality

Artists Rene Hazulin , Kris Komljenović , Marija Josipović and Julek Ploski deal with becomings and transformations, i.e. imagining and building reality, future or possibilities; relations between fiction and reality. Potential lives of seeds gently protected by brittle clay. Artist Marija Josipović thus proposes introspective gestures through hiding and revealing, in the words of Robert Morris: "Change is accepted and mediation is implied, the change will result in a different configuration."

MARIJA JOSIPOVIĆ

Artist Rene Hazulin deals with the question of her own trans identity and visual symbols of queerness; in her words, it is "work that deals with authenticity, trans identity, aesthetic interventions and gender affirming care", constructed samples of body parts; pulls between organic material and synthetic. The particular body and objectivity of the excluded as such become artificial. Digital interpretations of the existing, imaginary possibilities of the non-(tangible), fragmented soundscape narratives, texturing and play with matter mark the works of these artists.

RENE HAZULIN

Artist Kris Komljenović maneuvers through the themes of speculative fiction. With an interactive soundscape, he evokes the ambience of post-apocalyptic spaces and is interested in non-linear and interactive tailoring of narratives and atmospheres.

KRIS KOMLJENOVIĆ

While the musician Julek Ploski inhabits an ambient-experimental performance/dj set that, with its performative position, mediates the element of sound within the exhibition space.

The works invite us to synaptic associations/gestures of search - jumping, listening, sprouting like a compact "worldbuilding" that through its forms searches/reveals/guess the assumptions given by materiality.

The ROSE collective is a group of three authors engaged in performance and audiovisual installations. It was created in 2017 when Bruna Jakupović, Lana Lehpamer and Ivor Tamarut entered the Academy of Fine Arts. At the final exhibition of the New Media Department in 2019, they perform the first joint performance that deals with improvisation and the interaction of live sound and image within a closed loop. Since then, the collective continues to deal with the ideas of communication, collaboration and improvisation through collective artistic expression. In 2021, the collective exhibits a site-specific work called Working Spaces in the CEKAO gallery and performs the performance Speaking Spaces in the VN gallery. In 2023, in the Miroslav Kraljević Gallery, as part of the residency, they exhibited the artistic research "ROSE <3", in the same year they participated in the 63rd Poreč Annal with the work "ROSE VELVET", which they later exhibited at 10 Art Space in Belgrade.
